Same-Day Wisdom Teeth Removal Consult & Surgery Appointments

Complete the following at least 2 weeks prior to your surgery appointment:

• Complete Your Online Patient Registration
• Email the following additional information to [email protected]:
  • Medical & dental insurance cards (front and back)
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Insurance referral (if required)
  • X-rays from your dentist’s office
  • Referral from your dentist (with dentist’s contact information)

If you’re having IV sedation for your procedure, please review the instructions below. Questions? Call our office anytime at 336-992-2123.

Do:

• Arrange for a responsible adult driver. Your driver must be present before we start your procedure, and both your driver and vehicle must remain at the office for the full duration of your procedure.
• Wear comfortable clothing with sleeves that roll up past the elbow, and flat shoes.
• Pick up any prescriptions before surgery and read instructions carefully. Some conditions require starting a prescription beforehand.
• Continue your regular daily prescription medications unless told otherwise, swallowed with a minimal amount of water.
• Arrange for a responsible adult to stay with you and plan to rest for the remainder of the day.
• Have ice packs and soft foods ready at home.
• Bring a pillow for a more comfortable ride home.

Don’t:

• Do not eat or drink anything, including water, for 6 hours before your surgery.
• Do not wear contact lenses, jewelry, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
• Do not use tobacco products as this significantly increases the risk of delayed healing, extended discomfort, and dry socket.
• Do not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after IV sedation or while taking narcotics.

Patients under 18: A parent or legal guardian must accompany the patient to surgery. Proof of guardianship will be requested at check-in.

• Swelling is common and varies by patient. Expect peak swelling around 48–72 hours after surgery. Apply a cold compress to the surgical area for the first 3 days: 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.
• Numbness or tingling of the tongue, lip, chin, or cheek is possible but rare, and is usually temporary.
• Infection is uncommon; if caught early, it’s very treatable. Call us right away if you notice new pain or swelling, especially about a week or more after surgery.
• You may be prescribed antibiotics before surgery to reduce infection risk, and a longer-acting local anesthetic (up to 3 days) may be available. Ask your surgeon if you’re a candidate.

Is same-day surgery right for me?

Most patients are candidates for same-day consult and surgery appointments for wisdom teeth removal. Your surgeon reviews your health history and X-rays after you submit your paperwork. If anything needs a closer look, our team will reach out before your appointment.

What if I’d rather have a separate consult first?

That’s completely fine. Just let our team know when scheduling and we’ll set up a traditional consult appointment instead.

Will my insurance cover this?

Same-day surgery doesn’t change your coverage. We’ll verify your dental and medical insurance during the paperwork step. Have your insurance cards ready to upload or email.

What happens if I miss the 2-week prior paperwork deadline?

We’ll need to reschedule your surgery date. This deadline exists so your surgeon has time to review your health history and X-rays before your appointment.

Do I really need a driver?

Yes, this is required for patient safety with IV sedation. Your procedure cannot proceed without a driver present, and they’ll need to remain at the office for the duration of your visit.
